On Monday 15th September, a small group of Year 12 students visited Forest School, Snaresbrook, where an insightful talk was delivered by the University of Oxford’s Admissions Team about what makes a stand-out University application. Students were spoken to about life at Oxford, the competitive application process and what makes a high-quality application. Here is what our students had to say about the visit:

The Oxford trip was incredibly informative and interesting, outlining features of its colleges and how they differ from normal universities. I learnt many things such as the application process and what life is like as an Oxford University student. I also learnt how to prepare myself for admittance exams and interviews, for example engaging in super-curricular activities like watching subject related lectures, documentaries and wider reading. Overall, the Oxford trip was extremely useful and helped motivate me to take responsibility for my own learning and strive to reach a top university.”

James Mulligan – 12PL

I found the trip to Forest School a valuable use of time as Ms Glover and her partner provided us with critical insights into what makes a standout application, as well as the mistakes to avoid. To single out what I found to be the most useful insight from the presentation was the importance of completing super-curricular activities, as it enables students to stand out from the average applicant.”

Kaysan Ahmed – 12HA
